Selecting the right account for your clients’ investment goals is the first step of any financial plan. We offer flexible solutions for retirement and education savings, as well as accounts for general and unique investing needs for your RIA business.

Individual and joint accounts, eligible for margin borrowing, option trading, check writing and online funding. Some services are subject to approval.

Individual

A standard brokerage account for one person. This account is eligible for margin borrowing, option trading, check writing and online funding. Some services are subject to approval.

Joint

A standard brokerage account for up to three people. This account is eligible for margin borrowing, option trading, check writing and online funding. Some services are subject to approval.

Margin trading involves interest charges and risks, including the potential to lose more than deposited or the need to deposit additional collateral in a falling market. Scottrade’s margin agreement is available online or by contacting Scottrade, and contains the Margin Disclosure Statement and information on our lending policies, interest charges, and the risks associated with margin accounts.

Options involve risk and are not suitable for all investors. Detailed information on our policies and the risks associated with options can be found in the Scottrade® Options Application and Agreement, Brokerage Account Agreement, by downloading the Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options and Supplements (PDF) from The Options Clearing Corporation, or by requesting a copy by contacting Scottrade. IRA solutions for clients looking to invest for retirement.

Rollover IRA

This investment savings account is specifically designed to receive transfers from a previous retirement plan. This account is eligible for options trading and online funding. At least one beneficiary must be assigned when opening this account. Some services are subject to approval.

Roth IRA

This investment savings account provides potentially tax-free withdrawals after a certain retirement age as defined by current laws. This account is eligible for options trading and online funding. At least one beneficiary must be assigned when opening this account. Some services are subject to approval.

SEP IRA

Simplified Employee Pension Account for self-employed customers and small businesses. This account is eligible for options trading and online funding. Some services are subject to approval.

SIMPLE IRA (Employee)

This investment savings account is established by an employee who is a participant of a SIMPLE Plan. This account is eligible for option trading. At least one beneficiary must be assigned when opening this account. Some services are subject to approval

SIMPLE IRA (Employer)

This account is a plan account established by a small business employer, which provides a simplified method to make contributions toward their employee's retirement. Some services are subject to approval.

Traditional IRA

This account is eligible for options trading and online funding. At least one beneficiary must be assigned when opening this account. Some services are subject to approval.

Accounts to save for a minor’s education or future. 

Conservatorship

Allows a court-appointed conservator to manage the assets for the benefit of another. A Letter of Court Appointment (dated within 6 months) is required to open this account.

Coverdell ESA

Contributions and their subsequent earnings are tax-free when withdrawn to pay for qualified education expenses.

Custodial (UGMA/UTMA)

This account is managed by an adult for the benefit of a minor.

Guardianship

Allows a court-appointed guardian to manage the assets for the benefit of another. A Letter of Court Appointment (dated within six months) is required to open this account.
